Dolby Digital

Dolby Digital is the official name for a series of “lossy audio compression” technologies incorporated by Dolby Laboratories. Dolby Digital, previously known as AC-3, is a digital audio coding method that decreases the amount of data required to produce high quality sound. Dolby Digital takes advantage of how the human ear processes sound. When coding noise is close to the frequency of an audio signal, that audio signal masks the noise so that the human ear hears only the deliberate audio signal. Dolby Digital gives five full-bandwidth channels, front left, front right, center, surround left, and surround right, for real surround sound quality. Dolby Digital (AC-3) audio decoder sustaining multichannel (5.1) and stereo decoding over the full range of bit and test rates. The decoder is a fixed-point execution written fully in C and available in object code. Included documentation depicts how to integrate the decoder into a system. Using this package, system developers can integrate an AC-3 decoder into an SOC without the need for extra optimizations or software growth. The same Xtensa HiFi 2 Audio Engine is used for other Tensilica audio codecs, enabling the development of highly optimized multi-standard audio SOC designs.

The RCA RT2500 Home Theatre System will add a new level of enjoyment to your entertainment experience. It combines a receiver with 300 watts of total power output with one powered subwoofer and five compact satellite speakers. The Dolby Digital Surround Decoding makes a home theatre experience with up to 5.1 channels of wide band frequency response. Reconstruct acoustic environments (such as Concert, Stadium or Club) with the Digital Sound Processing. Emphasize the sense of being in the middle of the scene by creating separate channels for right/left/center and surround speakers. The DTS Surround Decoding delivers up to 5.1 channels of master quality giving an uncompromised reproduction of the original multi-track layers of audio sound. Built on the same chassis as its upscale sibling the RD-8601, the RD-7500, RD-6105, and RD-6500 are perfect receivers for the surround sound enthusiast on a budget. Their thoroughly contemporary design offers built-in decoders for Dolby Digital, fully adjustable Dolby pro Logic II, discrete wide-band amplifiers and enough power to achieve reference levels in a usual home environment. Whichever of these models you select, you'll be pleased with full rich sound, wide dynamic range and hushed operation — even from the surround channels. Dolby Digital Plus is a highly sophisticated and versatile audio codec based at its core on Dolby Digital and designed specifically to adapt to the changing demands of future audio and video delivery and audio storage systems, while simultaneously retaining backward compatibility with existing Dolby Digital decoders. Dolby Digital Plus has also been selected as a standard audio. Dolby is part of a group of organizations involved in the development of AAC (Advanced Audio Coding), part of MPEG specifications, and also considered the successor to MP3.
